Film Lightbox Project

Dan Mouradian worked as a photographer for a few years for a small independent magazine. But never lost the love for shooting film. Recently he completed a project that he has had in his head for many years with the help of his friend, Logan Reed, another film shooting aficionado, and recent graduate of IIT with a masters in architecture.

The project was to build a custom lightbox for an uncut roll of developed slide film. Dan built these boxes as a Valentine's day gift for his wife, and the photos are from his honeymoon to Europe several years ago. Each roll was shot in one of the three destinations they visited and were meant to be candid shots. The photos were shot with a Mamiya C330 Professional, and Fuji Provia 100.
"I have always enjoyed mixing traditional mediums with tech. So the boxes were constructed primarily by Logan based on a design I sent him, out of walnut and maple hard woods. The light box is controlled by LED strips and AA Batteries, with a capacitive touch switch, so we didn't need to mess up the beautiful wood with an ugly switch. The purpose was to be as minimal as possible."
